Ms. Porter was interviewed by Interfaith Action for Human Rights (IAHR) as part of their “Reimagining Criminal Justice in the United States.” Nicole is Director of Advocacy at The Sentencing Project where she manages The Sentencing Project’s state and local advocacy efforts on sentencing reform, voting rights, and eliminating racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

Interfaith Action for Human Rights (IAHR) represents people of faith who live in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland. IAHR’s mission is to end policies and practices that promote torture in our society and to counter bigotry directed against vulnerable communities. Our work focuses on minimizing the use of prolonged isolation (solitary confinement) in prisons and jails in our region, ending other abusive treatment in detention facilities, and countering bigotry directed against vulnerable communities and individuals.
