DC Councilmember Allen Letter to Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Deputy Mayor for Health & Human Services

DC City Councilman Charles Allen sent a letter on April 9, 2020 to Kevin Donahue, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Wayne Turnage, Deputy Mayor for Health & Human Services to express “serious concerns about the safety and wellbeing of District residents exiting our criminal justice system.”

From the letter:

“Specifically, I fear that the District is not strategically addressing the transition of individuals from the D.C. Jail, the District’s halfway houses, and the Bureau of Prisons back into the community. Having inadequate social supports in place for our returning citizens during the public health emergency is both a public safety and public health crisis, and it affects not only our returning citizens, but their families, neighbors, and truly, all District residents.”
