As reported by numerous media outlets, D.C. deputy mayor for public safety and justice, Chris Geldart, has been suspended from duty pending an investigation into an assault charge in Arlington County. Geldart was charged by Arlington police with choking someone during a dispute outside of an Arlington gym on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The Mayor’s office made this statement to WUSA9:
“We take any accusations seriously and are reviewing the matter. While it is under review, Deputy Mayor Geldart is on leave. Unfortunately, it sounds like something that happens to a lot of people — a dispute over something minor — and we hope it is resolved quickly.”
