Bureau of Prisons Announces Intent To Expand Use Of Home Confinement

Attorney General William P. Barr issued an order to the federal Bureau of Prisons “to expand the cohort of inmates who can be considered for home release upon my finding that emergency conditions are materially affecting the functioning of the Bureau of Prisons.”

The BOP has increased Home Confinement by over 40% since March and is continuing to aggressively screen all potential inmates for Home Confinement. On April 3, the Attorney General exercised emergency authority under the CARES Act, to further increase Home Confinement.
